I am very happy to participate in the first Rencon workshop to be memorized. In this workshop, we could listen to and compare the performances generated by the systems developed in all over the world, for the first time.
The performance played on an automatic acoustic piano exhibited the nuance of the expression more, compared with the electric MIDI-instruments. It enlightened us what we have to do to engage in the study of performance rendering.
At the same time, I found the difficulty to introduce the mechanical control in the experiment. Timing control of notes of some performance seems to be varied due to the physical delay of key motion. Including this matter, We have to consider a lot of things regarding contest environment.
I hope the Rencon project will grow, and the systems' performances will be compared with human's, in near future.
